Why the parables?
There is something disturbing about the parables. At times they can feel like an attack. Perhaps John from Revelation may have been thinking of them when he thought of painting the image of Jesus with a sword coming out of his mouth. But these swords are more like a garden instrument – which seeks to prepare the soil for life.
Jesus when asked why he teaches in parables responded, “That’s why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they’re blue in the face and not get it.”
Ultimately our hope is that these stories lead us to wonder. To again re-imagine what our lives in Jesus look like. We invite you to join us on the journey.
