For the rest of 2010 (bar the odd exception) our Sunday gathering will now be 5pm at Massey University.
Our Sunday evening is a chance to mix and mingle, be entertained and hear insights from our communications team about life inspired by knowing God. All are welcome.

Directions

We are situated in the Level One Common Room which is above the Tussock cafe (the cafe is well signed posted). Look out for our Mosaic street sign which is on the right hand side of the building.

If driving…

There is plenty of free parking via the Tasman Street Entrance E. The E entrance is just north of Coombe Street. Parking is available near the outdoor seating area (note you cannot drive through from Wallace St).

If coming by bus…

You can catch a bus that comes up Wallace St (like a Railway 11 for example). Get off outside the BPM fitness center at the top of Taranaki and Wallace Streets. Walk through the Massey grounds towards Tasman St. It can be a bit of a maze but you are looking for the Student Union building.

So what is this gathering about?

Mosaic meets as a whole community in two different ways. First we meet every Sunday for stories, food and good conversation. Secondly, we meet every fortnight on a Wednesday to delve into the mystery of Scripture and to probe what it means to live as Jesus did (you can read more about each of our Gatherings here).
Until now we have met in homes and shared a meal together, but we have now become too large to all fit and give everyone a seat. So in order for there to be more room for others to join in (maybe you?), we have found ourselves a new place we can hopefully translate our Sunday gathering to.

What to expect

Our Sunday gathering will be much the same as it was - an informal affair with a delicious selection of finger food and the opportunity to hear some stories shared about what the Mosaic Community is about. Each Sunday evening will be loosely structured around a core idea which will guide the evening. There will also be the chance for people within the Mosaic community to express their creativity through forms like spoken word poetry and original music.

Our first workshop of 2010 kicks off in May with a special event for Victoria University Students.
The question “Got Talent?” seems an apt title for our upcoming workshop and serves as a source of motivation for us – so many people studying at our New Zealand’s top universities, like Wellington’s Vic Uni, don’t know how to answer that question with much more than a “I’m not sure”.

The Got Talent? Workshop is an introduction to the pursuit of discovering your innate talent and how you can to begin to turn these talents into strengths. Without the jargon, our workshop will help you to understand how you can make the most of how you naturally think, feel and behave as you engage in study, work and your life beyond.

One of our objectives for this workshop is to not only help people answer YES! to the Got Talent question, but to go a step further by giving workshop participants the insight to actually name the area of talent. To achieve this we use the Clifton Strengthsfinder tool to fuel the discussion. Every workshop participant gets access to the Strengthsfinder assessment as well as a supporting workbook.

Normally our workshops cost $99 per person, but as former uni students we understand that every dollar saved counts. So we are offering a special student price of $50 per person. It gets better! The first 10 registrations get a further 50% off with an early bird rate of $25. You will need to get in quick to get this deal though so don’t wait – registration closes Monday 26th April.*

If you’re interested in registering for our Got Talent? Workshop visit our Events page for further information. The workshop is open to all Victoria University students.

*We are able to offer a discounted rate through sponsorship from Mosaic, an entrepreneurial Christian Community that values creativity and helping others find greater wellbeing. Awaken New Zealand began as an initiative out of Mosaic with the goal to help people discover their talents and to inspire New Zealanders to live up to their potential for the benefit of others.

The big aim of the Peacemaker Series is to let God’s healing flow through us into the broken and hurt parts of the world and the brokenness in our own lives. Often we are unaware of where the brokenness is in our own lives and in others. The first assignment is to take a little step to help bring wholeness in someone else or in you (essentially fight a small fire). A good place to start would be listening closely to those around you or just reflection. Here is some food for thought:

Is there something you have meant to do (for someone or yourself) for a long time but just haven’t carved out the time?

Is there a nagging in your gut about something you have wanted to say or do to make amends or rekindle a friendship?

Is there someone you feel you need to forgive?

The Peacemaker Experiment is a series of challenges aimed at inspiring us to engage in the acceptance and spreading of peace, which for us is rooted in the Hebrew concept of “Shalom” (meaning wholeness and fulfillment). In short it means growing in our own lives and helping those we share life with grow as well. Peace as a concept seems huge, a big blaze, but it isn’t bound to just fighting for peace in war torn counties (which is a good thing I might add) but also challenges us to bring wholeness to all various aspects of life. Shalom reaches to the ends of the universe and to the very small interactions with your neighbour.

So the experiment builds off this idea of Shalom and seeks to meet us right where we’re at. The experiment may seem insignificant or pointless but it is a radical challenge for us to find the significance of giving ourselves to the seemingly insignificant. Hopefully we will be empowered from the little battles to eventually move into the more major conflicts…baby steps.

The difficulty to see the potential in the world around us often needs first battled in front of the mirror. You may want to begin by taking stock of yourself.

Where are you or have you experienced healing and growth?

Another way of thinking; how are you wealthy? (Think outside just monetary. In what area of your life do you feel you have been given something you could share? Maybe ask a close friend to offer their take on your skills and potential.)

Each week we will posting a new stage in the experiement for you to participate in. Read the post, take up the challenge and post your experience under the comments section to share what you discover. Once you have done that, maybe you can invite someone else to join you.

Looking forward to learning what you have to say.
