For the last 6 months the Ladder Project team has been investigating how ordinary Kiwis can have a lasting impact on addressing (and reducing) poverty in NZ and aboard.
Phase one of the project is nearly complete and we are celebrating. While we are at it, we want to take the opportunity to help out others.
This will also be a special night as we are doubling our party as a fund-raiser with all proceeds going to help flood victims in the Philippines. Tickets $15 each.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
For every dollar we raise one benefactor will match it. So PLEASE helps us spread the word! The more tickets we sell, the more we can contribute.

Contribute to the Idea Storm

We are starting to move on turning ideas into an initiative. Part of this process is to capture our thinking so others can join in and offer their insights. Who knows, your contribution could be the one that makes all the difference. Don’t miss out on helping us to pioneer something with the potential to impact the lives of others.
Excerpt from the Idea Storm:
We sat in a poverty lecture at Victoria and a student stood up; her accent was thick but she spoke clearly. You could tell she had a “heart” interest in the conversation. She shared that she was here in NZ to learn so that she could assist in the development of her world back home. I don’t know if she was from a village or had strong family culture at home, but it sparked me at least to think: what if people from the villages are here? What if there are people right here in Wellington that are connected to some of the poorest places on earth?

What is The Ladder Project?*
How we got started
Wanting to do something, anything really, to help those in need; we have set up a project in which students and others will be able to engage with experts in development, aid and charity and get the good oil on how to effect lasting and ethical change which benefits the poor of the world. The project is intended as a ladder to a higher level of knowledge about the fight against poverty, from where the efforts of a group of ordinary people can be given direction and let fly.
The Ladder Project is an initiative of a group of like-minded friends from Wellington, NZ. After working with the poor and abandoned kids in an orphanage outside Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for three months, Demelza Woolston came back to New Zealand exhausted but inspired. Her stories, told via blog and over Mosaic Community shared meals combined with Mosaic’s own ethics pushed us to start a process of discovery and response in the area of poverty, the orphaning of children, and people trafficking.
What’s going on?
The Ladder Project Speaker Series is an opportunity for Wellingtonians from any background to hear from experts in Development, Charity and Aid on the topic of the reality of poverty, its causes, and what people and organisations are doing to stem and ultimately reverse the tide of poverty. For more information on the upcoming speaker series please click here.
Outside of the speaker series, The Ladder Project continues to engage in research and discussion every Monday (with the exception of the first Monday of the month) in the Victoria University library. Details on events and activities will be updated here or if you want more info contact Adam via ladderproject@gmail.com.
The Vision
2010 is the year we see the rubber hitting the road; where all the information, guidance and enthusiasm generated during the ladder project will be applied to a distinct area of action.

1:Infinity - Speaker Series

The Speaker Series comprises the major stepping stones for the Ladder Project. A main value of the Ladder Project is learning from others, especially the more experienced. While the Speaker Series makes up a significant chunk of our activity, it does not comprise the whole of our attempt and we don’t believe just listening to four speakers will adequately prepare us to launch an effort. To find out more info on The Ladder Project take a look here.
Each session of the speaker series was strategically picked to enable an effort in the fight against poverty. The Speaker Series is perhaps the most accesible part of the Ladder Project and we honestly hope that if you are committed or interested in joining this fight, you will join us or atleast come check out what these speakers have to say.
